Remote Email Access For All Devices
With email being such an essential part of our daily lives, its important that we are able to access our email at all times. Remote email access is a much talked about issue because it does present some security issues. While hackers do not really have the desire to read your personal emails, what might be a real issue is with your accounts that work on your email. PayPal is one such example and if someone gets hold of your PayPal email they can really cause some serious damage.
Without getting paranoid, remote email access is quite safe. How you access your email depends on a number of factors. The device you want the emails on and the type of email account will determine how you can access it. These days you can view virtually all emails on all devices but it does require some setups and certain protocols to be configured.
- Free eMails
Free email accounts like Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are probably the easiest because you can get a free account within minutes and you will be able to access it from any computer with an internet access. Although its much better now, these free email accounts were notorious for being spammed. Another problem is importing these emails into your Windows Outlook. Only Gmail supports POP access which will allow you to set up your Gmail in MS Outlook.
- MS Outlook
If your webmaster set you up with an email (typical for company email addresses) then you will probably be used to accessing your emails through Microsoft Outlook or some other desktop email client. To view these emails remotely is actually quite easy. All you will need is your password and by going to an email services like SquirrelMail or WebMail you can access your email remotely. You can even use remote desktop software to access your work PC and get to your email that way. Many companies have company websites that allow you to access your email via the website which eliminates the need for a program like MS Outlook.
- Mobile Devices
Remote email access via a mobile device is a little bit more tricky. It requires more technical knowledge and also depends on the device. For a BlackBerry or similar smart phone the procedure is relatively well illustrated and you will require your login and password details to your email account. Accesing free email services like Gmail and Yahoo Mail is as simple as accessing the internet on your phone and logging in via the web. These email services are optimized for viewing via mobile devices and its pretty quick and easy to access.
